Flood Buckets needed By the NJD Disaster Response Team
When it comes to Disasters in New Jersey, the most common involve water and wind damage. Responding to these disasters takes supplies and training. Responding to water damage takes flood buckets. Our team’s plan:
To have congregations prepare flood buckets- we would like to have 600 flood bucket prepared
Identify 3 churches to serve as regional “warehouses” in the District’s 3 regions.
Synod will supply labels and devotionals for the buckets. How ever many buckets your church can make will go a long way to meeting our goal. If your church is able to store the buckets it has made, that is great. If your church can warehouse buckets please let Pastor Christian Schonberg, NJ District Disaster Response Coordinator know. ([email protected])
It is our hope that individual families as well as groups within the church will make buckets. This would be an excellent Lenten or Easter project. Please contact Pastor Schonberg to let him know if your church plans on making buckets or can serve as a storage site, so he can get labels and devotionals to you and report to District on the progress to the goal.
The goal of 600 buckets may seem like a lot – but when a flood happens—buckets go quickly. Identifying 3 regional storage sites would enable the Disaster Response team to act more quickly when the need is urgent. We are the hands and feet, voice and ears of Jesus in this world. Let’s be prepared and show up in His name when and where people are hurting from a flood.
For more information or with questions, please contact Pastor Schonberg. ( [email protected])

The New Jersey District of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod is developing a state-wide Disaster Response Plan, and has established a Disaster Response Team.
Our volunteers participated in the MERCY in Action Lutheran Early Response Training (LERT) as part of that plan. Other basic duties of the District team include training for participating congregations, assessing congregational needs following a disaster and helping to develop a relief and recovery plan, and working to help fulfill the needs of individuals and communities as needed.
