Genesis 8:22 “As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” During the summer months, I have always marveled at seeing nature transform our yards and walkways, and how the milder climate brings God's people outdoors more. Personally, I feel my best during the warmer months. I replace cozy nights on the couch with long hikes or nature walks. I replace bigger, heavy meals with lighter summer fruits and vegetables. I tend to drink more water in the summer, helping curb my appetite. This summer at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fair Lawn, we had a wonderful opportunity to offer various group health activities open to all. We offered an evening of Tai Chi, a gentle form of martial arts that supports balance and joints, lowers stress and blood pressure, and overall is excellent for circulation. We also had an evening of Gentle Yoga, welcoming Sheryl Quarters from our sister congregation Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgewood. Gentle Yoga began with a beautiful study of God's word for sisterhood, and ended with a full body workout aimed at reducing stress and enhancing breathing and balance. Our Savior Lutheran Church also restarted their Saturday morning walking group "Soles for Jesus", led by Inga Smet. There are so many exciting ways your congregation can emphasize wellness, fostering healthy habits as a congregation and church family, giving thanks to God for our mind, bodies and spirit.
As we enter cooler months, I challenge you to continue with some of the healthier habits from summertime! Encouraging one another in Christ!
