Deaf Ministry

Our deaf ministry-- St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for the Deaf-- began as a mission of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Newark, in 1937.  It was served by missionaries until 1950 when a full-time pastor was installed.  In 1952, St. Matthew’s worshiped in its own facility in Newark for the first time.  The congregation sold that building and moved to Clifton in 1997.  Since May 2002, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for the Deaf has been worshiping at Grace Lutheran Church, Union.  The congregation now utilizes the services of interpreters after having been served by four full-time pastors.
